CWBA Lawyers Teaching for Change Program Resources

RESOURCES

Example Email to Principal

Hello Principle X,

My name is __________ and I’m an attorney/judge. The Colorado Women’s Bar Association has developed a “Lawyers Teaching for Change” program with the goal of increasing the number of diverse students that enter the practice of law. The program sends attorney volunteers into the classroom to teach students about the practice of law. I am contacting you as I would like to present the program to a classroom in your school. Below is an explanation of the program.

The program is designed to be used for grades 3-5. The course is designed to be a two-session course (approximately 1.5 hours each day). Session one is a classroom lesson on the practice of law, and session two is a mock trial. Although this is how the course is designed, the teacher and myself can modify it as necessary (for example, by only doing the mock trial day, or combining both days into one, with an abbreviated session one).

Are there any teachers in grades 3-5 at your school who would be interested in having this program presented in their classroom? If so, please put me in contact with those teachers so that we can arrange a specific day and time.

Thank you.
